At last, we pulled our first Chinook out of the head of Rivers Inlet! From ‘The Slide’ to be exact. This means that guests will be able to fish right at our door step instead of making the trek out to the mouth of the inlet. The fish was one of the biggest of the past three days. Signs of good things to come, I'm sure!
As per the standard of trips so far, the biggest fish was once again landed by the smallest angler. Lizzy Bullock, part of our female party the ‘fish ‘n’ chicks’, caught the 30 pound Chinook and became the second lady of theseason to join our Captain's Club. She caught her beauty late on the last night of the trip after a long day with little reward—well done again Lizzy!
It has been raining for the last 3 days and the catch brought new motivation to the group to fish the head before first light on the last morning to get in as many hours as possible. All in all the trip was made fun having the girls showing up the guys regularly and the guys being man enough to make light of it and go along with the fun. They had plenty of fun with some Coho and Pinks still making their way up the inlet.
I think we’ll be spending a lot more time here at the head from now on to see if we can slay a lot more of these big ones that are starting to move through with this new rain. Predictions throughout the inlet are that the big runs are very close.
