King Salmon Wrap-Up

King Salmon Resort - September 15, 2005

Wow… the season is over, leaving behind memories of good times and great people. 2005 has been a lot of fun.

The seasons change quickly up here, and the first winter storm can’t be far away. We are busy packing up the resort: prepping the cabins, moving the docks to a sheltered cove, and bringing the boats into dry storage.

The 2005 season was a good one for most anglers. King Salmon Resort opened on July 10th to sunny skies and good fishing for Coho and Pinks at the mouth of Rivers Inlet, while Draney Inlet produced some nice early Chinook up to 37 lbs. Fishing for trophy Chinook at the head of the inlet was slow to start but picked up very quickly, and by the last week of July, Chinook were hot!

The largest fish of the season, caught by Bruce Hodesson on August 2nd, weighed in at a staggering 60 lbs! That week had a steady stream of 40 lb. plus trophies landing on the docks. August saw some quality fish around the resort for those with the patience to wait for the bite to turn on. For those anglers with the craving for more action, escorted trips to the mouth of the inlet met with excellent Coho fishing and some good halibut, too.

This year we set up the Rivers Inlet Outpost near the mouth of Rivers Inlet. The Outpost lets guests get out of the boat for a bit and stretch their legs, hit the head, and relax in a truly beautiful sheltered bay.

Congratulations to all of our Masterfishermen this year, and a special thank you to all of our great guests and hardworking crew for the laughs and inspiration.

See you all next year!
Rob Havers,
Fishmaster
