Northern BC Fishing Outlook

Northern BC Fishing Resorts - March 13, 2006

I hope you’re ready for some great fishing – 2006 is shaping to be a great season through out our Northern Resorts.

Each year, anglers greet swarms of Chinook and Coho as they stream south past the MV Charlotte Princess and MV Marabell at Langara Island, and the MV Salmon Seeker at Kano InletRun sizes for Chinook and Coho are forecast to be similar or better than 2005, continuing the Queen Charlotte Islands reign as one of the top Chinook and Coho fisheries anywhere.

Last season, guests had to fish hard and fish deep to get at the abundant Chinook at both Langara Island and Kano Inlet (they still did well, though – see pages 6 & 7).  For 2006, it appears that the warm surface temperatures of the North Pacific that kept salmon deep and often well-offshore throughout the key summer months of 2005 have dissipated.  Guests can look forward to battling Chinook at the usual 10 to 30 pulls and 4 or 6 ounces of weight again – much more fun, if you ask me.

Chum, Pinks and Sockeye and should all return in huge numbers, as usual – hopefully not too huge, so we can focus on the giant Tyee that make Langara Island and Kano Inlet their home in the spring and summer!

Bottom fish catches improve year after year and, with Cookie’s new halibut program at Langara Island entering its second successful year, we've got every reason to believe that Masterfisherman halibut catches will be even better in 2006.

The forecast for Rivers Inlet and King Salmon Resort is equally good, with a stronger return of Chinook and Coho predicted for the inlet and its approach waters.  Guests that have fished the inlet knows what this means – playing Coho through the day while angling for the 60 plus pound beauties that give the resort its name.

2006 is shaping up to be a great fishing season and we anticipate plenty of full fish boxes and smiling faces. Join us for the fishing adventure of a lifetime and catch your own piece of the action!
