Outlook and first catches

King Salmon Resort - July 11, 2007

The first 2 days of fishing here in Rivers Inlet have provided an optimistic outlook for the balance of the season.

Chinook (Kings), Coho (Silvers) and Pink salmon have already arrived in the inlet and these fish will only increase in numbers and size as the season progresses. Word from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans is that 2007 should provide a good return of 5- year-old Springs. This means SIZE!

Fish over the last 2 days were caught at the mouth of the inlet at various depths on cut plug herring. The largest fish so far is a 23 lb. Chinook caught by Courtney Betts from BC.

The weather graciously turned sunny and hot for opening after a month of rain during preparation for our 2007 season. Crew and contractors worked very hard during refit completing significant improvements to the main lodge and jetty. The lower lounge has been refurbished and officially named “Liar’s Lounge.&dquo; What else would you call a place where guests relax after a gourmet dinner to tell fish stories of their day on the water in one of the greatest ‘fishing holes’ in the world?
