Rivers Inlet Fish Report

King Salmon Resort - August 15, 2006

45 lb King salmon caught at Rivers InletAs the days start to get shorter — its getting dark by 9:30 and light at 5:30 am — the fishing is really picking up.

Guests enjoyed a good Coho bite the last few days at the Wall, Cranston Point, and Draney Inlet, and some nice Chinook were taken from various locations. The top fish was a 45 pounder caught by Karl McShane of Oregon. The Coho are bigger this year, so far averaging 10 or 11 pounds. Halibut fishing has slowed down with big tides moving things around.

We have been doing trips out to the mouth of the inlet almost every full day. These trips offer great wildlife viewing opportunities: humpback whales are an everyday sighting as well as dozens of eagles. This area is gorgeous and unspoiled and huge. Giant cedars and old growth forest growing straight out of the rock. Sheer cliffs of rain polished rock propel waterfalls to the inlet below. After a day of this, guests sit around the bonfire telling fish stories and philosophising. It doesn't get much better.

Tight Lines,
