Rivers Inlet Fishing Report

King Salmon Resort - July 20, 2006

Rivers Inlet fishing lodgeAs we wait for the next big salmon run, fishing has cooled a little around the mouth of the inlet. There’s still big fish to be had with a little patience, just not in the the numbers we had last week.

The fishery here is concentrated on a few runs and anglers are eagerly anticipating the next big run. It seems that the fish’s instincts to spawn are triggered by the big rains this area is known for. We expect the numbers to build with the arrival of some six and seven year old giants. Meanwhile, anglers will still be rewarded with a few nice fish. The weather has been good with very calm seas and only a few showers.

Congratulations to Karen Walker on her very first salmon. Big fish of the group was a 35 pound Chinook caught by Dave Blanshard.

There were lots of Pink salmon at Draney Inlet and some Coho and Chinook out at The Wall. Stone Point, McAlister, Kilbela and McPhee Bay all producing a few nice fish. Six humpback whales have been spotted in the inlet daily and one performed right in front of our docks.

The staff of the resort has done a great job getting everything ready for the season. All the boats have brand new Yamaha 50 hp four stroke engines and new depth sounders. The lodge looks better than ever, including a new poker table and satellite radio. This is going to be a great season, and I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones this summer.

Tight Lines;
Fishmaster Rob
