Rivers Inlet Fishing Report
King Salmon Resort - August 6, 2006
A pod of Orca was waiting at the docks for us yesterday morning. There must have been eight or nine in this group of whales — they’re beautiful, but nothing shuts down the fishing faster.
Orcas are probably the most amazing, feared hunter in the sea. They were seen leaving the inlet after only half a day, and were here for the same reason we are: salmon.
We’re still waiting for the rain and the incredible fishing that it brings with it. We have had precious little rain this season and the stream is way down. It looks like the later arriving guests may get some of the best fishing of the season.
Nevertheless, anglers have landed some quality fish. The largest Chinook (king) was a 31 pound Tyee caught by Asa Hamomoto, and there are some big fish tales coming out of The Wall and Draney Inlet. The trips to the mouth of the inlet continue to produce Cho and small halibut.
Maybe we should try a rain dance…
