Rivers Inlet Fishing Update

King Salmon Resort - August 17, 2006

22 lb Coho caught at King Salmon ResortThe really big Chinook (Kings) are starting to come into the inlet, and the size of these fish are truly spectacular.

The Wannock River produces some of the largest Chinook on the coast. They are late returning to the river this year due primarily to the lack of rain. The ones we have caught recently have all been bright silver indicating they are fresh off the ocean. The quantity isn’t at full volume yet but I’m optimistic.

There was a good bite on Tuesday morning in McPhee Bay and Stone Point, with Chinook averaging around thirty pounds. The weather has been a challenge with brisk winds starting around noon most days, but the mornings have been glorious. Humpback whales, in greater numbers than I have ever seen, have been sighted in almost every bay.

Big fish honors go to Curt Leigh with a 50 pound Chinook. The biggest Coho (Silver) of the season, weighing in at a wopping 22 pounds was landed by Lorne Wozniak.
